Magazine Feedback Draft (Teachers)

I believe receiving feedback from my peers is very effective for a few reasons. The feedback allows me to see what went well (www) in my magazine draft. I think this is effective because it gives me confidence and lets me know that my teachers found specific parts of my magazine appealing and what I do not really need to improve on as much as other things. The feedback also allows me to respond to my teachers. My teachers bullet pointed even better if (EBI) which is effective as I can reflect and learn from my mistakes. By having this improvement method allows me to ensure I hit all points discussed and to achieve a better grade.

Responding to Peers

I think responding to my peers has been an effective piece of work to do because it enables me to see any faults I have made, what I can improve on or what positive things I have achieved. It also enabled me to contact my target audience and see what their views were on the magazine pitch I had created for my magazine.

Photoshoot Outfit's

This blog post contains the outfit's I used for my photoshoot. I will analyse why I chose these specific outfits.

This is a '3D Fluffy Flower Bralet' from Topshop. I chose this peice of clothing as it has recently been released in the shop and my magazine is music and fashion, therefore it shows that I am keeping up with the latest fashion trends for my magazine. I like the material on this because it is unusual and the idea that the pattern looks like flowers is effective because it looks sweet and girly and the target audience for my magazine is females. Because it is quite a teenage peice of clothing, it is effective for my magazine as it's target audience is mainly teenagers. Unfortunately, the item of clothing did not suit the model. I think this is because she is quite small therefore it made her look bigger than she actually is. It wasn't effective on her therefore would not look good in my magazine. I only took one image with this item of clothing on.

This is a 'Mesh Dress' from ASOS. My model brought this in from her own wardrobe as I did not own a mesh dress and I wanted to take images of her in it because mesh is on trend therefore went well with my music/ fashion magazine. The chest part of the dress is a solid colour, not mesh. This is effective as it is not too revealing. If it would have been mesh it may have put off my target audience. The mesh sleeves are also effective as they were not too revealing for my target audience. I like the material of the dress because it portrays the artist to be quite flirtatious and confident and I believe this is effective for my target audience as they may aspire to be like her. Many young audiences keep up with the latest fashion trends therefore they may consider buying this for their wardrobe. Fortunately, this looked effective on my model. The colour brought out her eye colour and the fit was perfect. With all my images, I only captured the top half of my model. This is because it is mainly supposed to be a music magazine therefore I didn't want fashion to take over although I wanted to stick to my pitch so I still considered fashion effectively.

This is the 'Adelmira Crochet Hem Cropped Jumper In Black' from Missguided. This piece of clothing was worn to the school by the model on the day of the photoshoot. Although we did not capture the main feature of the clothing (the crochet hem) it was effective as the black went tell with the simplistic theme.

This is the 'Spotty Mesh Top' from Topshop. The brand is effective as it is always on trend therefore will draw fashionista's in. I like the white mesh material because it is also on trend therefore readers may consider buying it or the magazine may appeal to them more if they like it. I also think the spots on the top is effective as mesh material can be quite revealing therefore this makes is less revealing and gives a more laid back look. The top is quite simplistic. It fit's like a t shirt and sticks to one colour so this fit's well with my simplistic theme. The item of clothing suited the model well and this was effective because it meant I could take more images of my model.

This is a t-shirt from 'Lazy Oaf', however the one we used was black and white. I like how it is a loose fit because it made the model look laid back therefore she looked more confident and in a natural environment. The use and black and white was effective because it went well with my simplistic look. The use of zig-zag's and lines etc. as a pattern on the t-shirt was very effective as it was quirky and stood out. It also made the model stand out too. I believe the pattern of the t-shirt works well with the genre of my magazine (Pop) because Pop music is seen to be quite loud and I think the t-shirt emphasises this. Sometimes the t-shirt complimented the model, however sometimes it did not. I think this is because the model is quite small therefore again made her look bigger than she actually is.

Lastly, a stripy top from H&M. I like the stripes as it is quirky and fits in well with the loud and bold genre of my magazine (Pop). The black and white is also effective because it fits the simplistic scene.

My Magazine Model/ Artist

(Picture 2936)

The model I chose to use for my magazine is Sydonie Spiers. She is 17 years old and lives locally. There are a few reasons to why I chose to have Syd as my model:

  • Her age. Because she is seventeen, she looks a mature age therefore fit's my made up artist prefectly because I want my artist to be young however mature. Being at a matue age is effective because this means I am able to take my images more effectively.
  • She lives locally. I believe this is effective as she is there whenever I need her for the photoshoot(s) so I will not be let down.
  • She is a model. Sydonie is apart of 'Pat Keeling Modelling' in Leicester and she goes there every Friday. I believe this is very effective because she will therefore be great in front of the camera as she has been taught all different poses and what makes her look photogenic etc.
  • She has lovely facial features. Syd's eyes are a sky blue. This is effective because they stand out very well on images- this will draw my readers in. Syd also has straight teeth. This is effective as her smile looks lovely and also the majority of celebrities nowadays look perfect therefore she looks like a celebrity. Lastly, Sydonie has flawless skin. This is effective as she looks airbrushed on my images therefore she looks like an actual model.
  • She has a great eye for fashion and make-up. Because Syd has a great eye for fashion, it enabled her to bring in a few of her own clothing for the shoot. This is effective because it allows readers to be influenced by her fashion taste. Syd also has good taste in make-up. This is effective because she picked her own make-up for the shoot and it turned out great. However, we both chose her lipstick because it had to be bright and fit in with the colour scheme of my magazine.
  • She has a bubbly personality. This is effective because it meant we could see her persnality through some of the images.
  • Lastly, she is a friend. I believe having a friend on the shoot was effective because it meant we got along and she felt more confident in front of the camera rather than having to work with a stranger. It also made me feel a lot more confident taking pictures too.
Overall, using Sydonie as a model on my photoshoot was extremely effective as she fitted my artist's role perfectly through her personality and looks.

Giving Class Feedback

I have commented on my majority of my classes 25 word pitches. I have been constructive about what I think about the idea, how much I am willing to pay for their magazines and suggestions to help them improve. I believe this is effective as it will help them in the creating of their magazines and it will allow them to reconsider things throughout creating.

Magazine Article

Orla Goes Gold
3 Number 1 singles, 2 Brit Awards for 'Best British Female Artist' and 'Best British Female Single' and now a golden Grammy to add to her collection. Think this is the end for our artist? Fear not, her journey has just begun!

The nineteen year old British Blonde Bombshell has only just begun her journey and managed to achieve all this in two years which takes many others a lifetime. Collaborations with Daft Punk, Will.i.am and Drake, she is said to be the next Miley Cyrus. The artist is currently recording her second album which will go on sale winter this year. X Magazine caught up with Orla East to talk about her music, what's next and her new found fame.

Orla began to pursuit her singing dream at just sixteen when she decided to upload YouTube videos of herself singing songs which appeared in the charts in the past, however nobody had heard of them for years.'It's such a cliché Justin Bieber story' she laughed 'on one of my singing videos, I covered Fallin' by Alicia Keys with my own personal twist. It wasn't a song I tried particularly hard on but by some miracle, it went viral.'
Luckily for this YouTube sensation, the song went back in the charts and many companies within the media questioned why. Once everybody discovered the truth about Miss East's viral video, it was all down to her. 'I remember it like it was yesterday' she said 'my mum came running into my room screaming telling me my video was on the news. From that day onwards, my life changed.' The passionate pop star received calls and emails from many record labels wanting to sign her. 'It was such a huge decision to make at sixteen years old- I was overwhelmed.' Orla added with slight confusion, 'some record signers would wait outside my school or my home, hoping they could bribe me with money or something, it was weird. I then realised I had a decision to make- to choose a label, obviously not the weirdo's who stalked me, and weather or not to pursuit my dream.'
Fortunately for us, the artist chose fame. She explained to us that the only reason she decided to go for it was because she wanted to make her family proud. 'My family are so supportive, they're my number one fans, without them I would fall apart.' Since Orla's stalkers and her claim to fame, the artist has been making the most of her new life. 'Oh what haven't I done!' she answered with great excitement. 'I've been to so many countries and cities to get my music out there, it's been incredible. I cannot believe my luck. Sometimes I feel like I'm dreaming, I mean, I've collaborated with some of the best artists.'

After chatting with the ambitious artist, it was time to change the subject. We were intrigued to find out about her recent music plans and her well deserved awards.
'After having such a great success with my first album, I am anxious to release my second' she feared. After selling over one million copies of her album and remaining first in the 'UK Top 40' for nine weeks, we were not surprised. 'The second album I will be releasing is ... different.' She hesitated with a huge grin on her face. 'It's not so different that past listeners won't like it, however it's more about my life rather than songs which do not really express anything.. When it's released you'll understand what I mean!'
The bubbly artist will be touring Spring 2015, and it's going to be a big one. 'I can't give too much away, however it's going to be crazy. Rumours have appeared in the media about who I will be touring with but you'll just have to wait and see!'
Miss East managed to get us on the edge of our seats with all this touring talk, so it was time to discuss her latest achievements. 'Ahhh my Brit Awards and my golden Grammy!!' Orla was overwhelmed and jumping around the room like an out of control schoolgirl. 'Winning 2 Brit's in one night was as good as it could get, but when I was nominated for a Grammy I didn't know what to do with myself! I turned to my mum and said 'is this a joke?' I could not believe my luck. And when I won I thought I was genuinely going to faint. It was a miracle in my eyes. I couldn't help but feel bad though, I was up against some of the best, and to think they were my idols and I had taken their potential Grammy! It was surreal. I actually apologised to Miley Cyrus because shes so great and deserved it! However she wouldn't accept it so I took it off her hands!'

As it reached the end of the day, it was time to wrap up our time with the artist. We decided to finish on what the future holds for Orla. ‘I don’t really have a plan, I’m just going to go with the flow and see what happens. I like being surprised and not knowing what’s going to happen. I don’t like the thought of having my future planned for me. Mystery is the way forward!’
