Analysing Magazines (Q Magazine Contents Page)

Masthead
The masthead has been featured in the top left of the page. This is effective because it is easy to see and readers know where they are.
A wob has been created so the contrast of the colours work well and the readers can see the text. The white compliments the black bannered background. The white also makes the page look stylish and modern.
The text is in capitals and a bold simple writing to ensure it is not missed by readers and so it van be viewed easily. The capitals suggests its importance.

Images (Including Main Image)
The main image is the central visual interest. Adele's eyes are looking at the readers to ensure they are drawn in and consider reading the magazine.
By the main image being the largest image on the page tells readers that the magazine contains a lot of information on her and she is quite important in this issue. It also is the most noticeable feature on the page, therefore this will catch the readers attention.
The close up of the artist's hair, accessories, make up and clothing compliment the colour scheme well. Her red hair matches the red features, the black clothing matches the text and the silver earrings match the white background.
The other image on the page is effective too. It splits up the majority of text and stops it from being so formal.
The other image consists of two artists together. This is effective as they are both a different gender and age to the main artists image. This allows the audience to relax and understand that the magazine is not ageist nor sexist and that anybody can view it. It allows readers to feel like they belong.

Colour Pallet
The colour pallet consists of black, white, red and grey. These colours are simplistic and appealing and they compliment each other well. Many magazines choose this colour scheme because it highlights the features the magazine has to offer most.
The red used on the magazine could connote that readers will love this magazine.

Features
The features on the magazine are banners (this gets the readers attention because they are usually in a different colour), features (lets the readers know what can be read in the magazine), women in music (this would appeal to both genders but mainly women as it is about their own gender and perhaps aspire to be like them), every month (this provides articles which are supplied every month such as crosswords to entertain readers after reading the magazine) and review (a music guide for those who are just interested in the music nothing else). These features are all effective because they apply to everybody therefore no age, race or gender is left behind.

Layering
There is over 25 layers on this contents page and they have been designed to all fit a specific job in order to make this magazine presentable and appealing. They all have individual needs for backgrounds, images, texts, shapes, etc. The magazine would not look this way if the layers were not organised correctly.

Fonts
There are many fonts on this magazine. The masthead and the main titles of this magazine are in the same font. The text is white in a simple bold and capital font. This is effective because it stands out more against the other texts.
The second font is the sub headings for what certain articles are about. This is effective as the smaller the texts get, the smaller their importance. The medium size of this text highlights it's average importance. Black text in a narrow font has been used to catch the readers attention.
The last font is 'Times'. This font is old fashioned however I like they way they have contrasted a modern and an old one. It is quirky and stylish. The text is yet again in black so it stands out to the readers.
