Analysing Magazines (V Magazine Cover)

Masthead
The masthead of the magazine cover is focused in the centre. This is effective as its hard to miss and you can identify it quickly.
The use of colour is striking and bold. It is clear for the audience and you cannot miss it.
The idea that the mast head takes over the cover identifies that it plays an important role in the magazine.
Beyonce's hands are wrapped around the magazine title. This could connote that this is a precious feature held in the magazine.
The magazine title is called 'V'. This is a clever title to have as it is simple, easy to remember, and also they can work around the images on the magazine (such as Beyonce holding the 'V').
The masthead is transparent so readers can see what is featured underneath.

Banner
Although the magazine cover does not have a banner, it does have 'V Magazine' featured in the top left corner. This is to highlight that the magazine is in fact a magazine not a poster (if you were to view this front cover online). The text is the same font as the masthead. This makes the magazine look neat. The capitals highlights its importance.

Main Image
The main image is a mid shot of the artist Beyonce. By having one artist on the front of the magazine cover highlights the artists importance in the magazine (there may be a lot of articles or information about her in the magazine).
The image of the magazine has been put in black and white. This is effective because it compliments the red of the text.
The image has been placed in the centre; this allows text to be written around it without the image getting in the way.
The artist Beyonce is staring to the right side of the magazine where the page is usually opened. I think this is clever as it looks like she is suggesting to open it and something is amazing inside.

Barcode
The barcode is featured in the bottom left of the magazine cover. This is effective because although it is out of the way it is easy to find if you wish to buy the magazine.
This feature is essential because it tells the audience how much the magazine will cost and they can decide if it is affordable or not.

Colour Pallet
The colours featured on the magazine cover are white, red, black and grey. The use of a wob is effective because the colours compliment each other well and they are easy to read.
The red colour allows the magazine cover to stand out. The colour also connotes passion- this could imply that the magazine has a passion for music/ fashion etc.

Layering
There are either 9 or 10 layers on the magazine cover. The reason why I am unsure is because the main image looks like the actual background as there is shadows rather than just a white background. The layers include background, main image, masthead, banner, main cover line, cover line, issue number, barcode and date. All of these layers have to be placed in a specific order to ensure they get the look they want, for example Beyonce holding the masthead in her hands.

Main Cover Line
The main cover line is the second largest bit of text on the magazine cover. This suggests that this bit of text is the second most important text on the cover.
The main cover line is in the bottom half of the magazine cover on the left. This is effective because the cover stays neat and approachable.
Because the main cover line is in a narrow and bold font suggests its importance and should be taken into consideration.
The main cover line is mainly in red font. Red draws your attention therefore again suggests it's importance.

Cover Lines
The other cover line featured on the magazine cover is in a smaller text than the main cover line. This suggests it's rank in importance is smaller than the main cover line. However, the wob colours make it stand out to highlight it is still important to the magazine.
