Analysing Magazines (Spin Magazine Front Cover)

Masthead
The masthead of the magazine cover has been featured at top centre of the page. This is effective because it is unmissable and can be seen clearly.
The masthead has a red square shape behind it. This is effective because it stands out against the black background and looks more noticeable than anything else on the cover.
The masthead is a wob. The use of white text is that it can be seen clearly, it looks fresh and modern, and it compliments it's background well.
The masthead is in a large and narrow font. This particular font is used by many music magazines for a modern and stylish look.
The text is in capitals. This highlights it's importance.

Main Image
The main image is the only image on the front cover of this magazine. This is effective because it is not over complicated. It also highlights the artist's importance in the magazine, perhaps implying there is a lot of information on him in there.
The main image is very clever. Photographers have slowed down the iso on the camera in order to achieve a mirrored yet blurred image effect. This works really well as it links in perfectly well with the magazine title 'Spin'.
The image uses similar colours to the text and background of the magazine to sustain a simplistic and minimalistic look.

Colour Pallet
The colours on the magazine cover have been kept to a minimum. Creators have used black, red and white mainly to keep an organised look.
The white text has created a wob to stand out.
The black background looks modern yet connotes mysteriousness which intrigues the readers.
Layering
In order to achieve the minimalistic effect, this magazine have only used 5 to 6 layers. This is effective because if they had used more, they would not have had a simple cover.

Cover Line
There is only one cover line on this magazine. This is effective because it sustains the simplistic look.
The cover line says 'Frank Ocean' which indicates and tells the readers what is who is on the front cover. Now a face has been put to a name, it allows the readers to be interested in their work and they can consider to read more about the artist.
